This brand new course will teach you the basics of drawing and painting through a series of recorded video demonstrations and exercises for you to complete during the week, with a one-hour Zoom session on Tuesdays at 1.30pm to review work and provide community and encouragement.
How does it work?
Every week you will receive a video demonstration that will take you through the essentials of drawing, then into painting, where each week builds upon previous experience. By the end of the course you will be able to plan and create a simple painting of your own design.
What does the course cover?
We will be exploring line, shading & tonal values, texture and mark-making, proportion and scale, colour mixing and colour theory, a variety of drawing media, watercolour and acrylics. The course will also provide an overview of pigments, brushes, papers and other surfaces. I will also introduce you to some artist examples for each week so you can see how the principles have been applied in practice.
Who is the course suitable for?
This course is for complete beginners, or those who have done some art but feel they have missed out on some basic tuition.
Is access to the course for a limited period of time?
No. Once the course is over you will still be able to go back to the videos via the link in the project sheets.
When does the course run?
The first project will be sent out by 7 January. The first Zoom session is on Tuesday 14 January.
The course runs for 10 weeks, ending on Tuesday 1 April (there are gaps on 11 February and 18 March).
What if I can't attend a Zoom session?
All the sessions are recorded so you will be able to watch later.
How do I send my work to you?
You can upload photos of your work to a Dropbox folder, or send photographs to the class email address.

That's understandable and everyone will feel the same way. My Zoom sessions are a very supportive and safe space for you to receive encouragement and support.
